The Green of Spring & Splendid Things
Springtime – a time for freshness and hope! And with that, the color most commonly associated with this time of year is green. And this comes as no surprise…
The rebirth of the earth, with buds abundant.
A feeling of hope after the harshness of winter -- seen in the renewal of flowers and plants that fill our gardens and deck planters with color.
Here at Beach Treasures in Duck, gaspeite jewelry grabs our attention much in the same way that our blooming hydrangeas delight the walkers strolling the Town of Duck boardwalk. As a gemstone, gaspeite stone is a relatively rare mineral. It is found in only a few locales – Canada, where it was originally discovered in Quebec, and Western Australia.
Gaspeite is generally recognized by its light green color – as bright and fresh as crisp green apples – which makes it quite unique. If you’re not familiar with this stone, you may recognize its use in Native American jewelry for pops of color and visual interest. On its own, gaspeite with all of its variety, makes for beautiful earrings, bracelets, and cuffs. Some varieties are almost neon green while others reveal chocolately brown patches – all this variation adding that special-something to a pendant or ring set in sterling silver.
As a healing stone, gaspeite is thought to reduce stress -- generating a grounded spiritual energy that encourages a wearer to live life in the real world, yet from a spiritual perspective. Others believe gaspeite might actually enhance our ability to clear the clutter from our lives – paralleling spring when most of us become inspired to “spring clean.” Remove the dust, reorder the pantries, and sort the wardrobe! Yet even though these projects tend to overtake an entire weekend…if you’re like me…the satisfaction of cleaning out junk and making more space feels great! And yes, that’s less stress in my book!
So happy spring, shoppers! Here’s to some fresh air, fresh ideas and perhaps some shopping too!
